B.   ABOUT THE IT AND E-BUSINESS INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Globally today, and for a long time to come, Information Technology has become the fastest growing economic and industrial sector contributing hugely to the GDP and GNP of developed economies of Europe, America and Asia. It has also been confirmed that Nigeria and Africa as a whole is an emerging market in terms of  tapping the immense job and entrepreneurial opportunities in Information Technology. Complementing the above is also the fact that many organizations today prefer graduates who are IT and/or E-Business Certified such that they can hit the ground running in the task of boosting the organizational results rather than having to spend huge resources to send them on training at the entry point. Likewise, it has been confirmed that about 80% of available jobs today are IT and/or E-Business related, such that irrespective of a graduate’s academic background, a good knowledge of IT and/or E-Business is a necessity.

Global job research has confirmed that IT and/or E-Business Certified applicants

a)      Are quicker to get lucrative jobs

b)      Blend easily and secure good jobs abroad if relocated to anywhere in the world

c)      Earn 5 times more than only academically certified graduates

d)     Can become self-employed as Consultants with the aid of the acquired skills.

C.   THE PROGRAMME OUTCOME

The IT and E-Business programme is intended to :

a)      Equip the students with International Certification- based IT/E-Business Skills Training, such that they are placed at vantage points in terms of employ ability and entrepreneurial opportunities at graduation.

b)      Enable the students acquire highly-sought international certifications alongside their respective academic disciplines thereby boosting their market readiness without having to waste precious time and huge resources on going for such training after graduation.

D.   STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE 2011/2012 EXTERNAL CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS

E.   NEW HORIZONS AWARDEES

a)      Internal Certification Examinations

During the 2011/2012 Session, 1006 qualified students from the Faculties of Science and Science Education and Social and Management Sciences sat for the IT and/or E-Business Internal Certification Examinations mounted by the New Horizons Systems Solutions.

In line with the policy of New Horizons Systems Solutions, awarded a Laptop to the best overall student in the 2011/2012 Session Internal Certification Examinations in each of the Faculties of Science and Science Education and Social and Management Sciences on Wednesday 13th February, 2013.

A laptop was awarded on Wednesday 13th February, 2013 to the best overall student in each of the three courses in the External Certification Examinations for 2011/2012 Session by New Horizons Systems Solutions.
