ADMISSION TO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES 2011/2012 ACADEMIC YEAR

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into Bowen University Postgraduate Programmes for the 2011/2012 academic session leading to the Award of Masters of Science (M. Sc) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) of the University.

1. POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME
   
   1. Faculty of Agriculture
      M.Sc and Ph.D Degree Programmes in various areas of specialization in each of the following:
      1. Agricultural Economics
      2. Animal Science
      3. Crop Production
      4. Environmental Management
   2. Faculty of Science and Science Education
      M.Sc and Ph.D Degree Programmes in various areas of specialization in each of the following:
      1. Chemistry
      2. Mathematics
      3. Microbiology
      4. Physics
   3. Faculty of Social and Management Sciences
      M.Sc and Ph.D Degree Programmes in various areas of specialization in each of the following:
      1. Accounting
      
      
2. GENERAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
   1. M. Sc Programme
      1. All candidates are required to possess a Bachelor’s Degree obtained from a University approved by Senate and with a grade of not less than Second Class Lower Division.
      2. A candidate with less than Second Class Lower Division may be considered provided he/she scores a minimum of 55% in a qualifying examination to be conducted by the Department.
      3. In addition to 1(a) and 1(b) above, candidates must satisfy the five Ordinary Level subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects as may be specified for the programme of choice.
   2. Ph.D Programme
      1. To be eligible, a candidate must have a relevant Masters Degree or equivalent from a University approved by Senate and a minimum of weighted average score of 60%.
      2. In special cases, a Department may require additional conditions including an interview.
      
      
3. METHOD OF APPLICATION
   1. Application Forms
      Application forms can be obtained:
      1. on-line from Bowen University Website www.bowenuniversity-edu.org Click on “Download Application Form”; download and print the form

      2. by hand or post from:
         The Secretary,
         Postgraduate School,
         Bowen University, Iwo,
         Osun State.
   2. On-line Application
      To complete the Application Form On-line:
      1. Visit Bowen University website www.bowenuniversity-edu.org
      2. Download, print and study the On-line Postgraduate Application Procedure.
      3. The cost of the On-line application is a non-refundable fee of Ten Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty Naira (N10,350.00) including bank charges.
   
   
4. INSTRUCTIONS
   For Application Forms obtained by Hand/Post or Downloaded
   
   1. Candidates should complete and submit the form with the required documents listed in E and a non-refundable fee of N10,000.00 in Bank Draft Payable to Bowen University, Iwo.
   2. Candidates must indicate their names and addresses at the back of the Bank Draft.
   3. Each request for application form by post must be accompanied by a N50.00 (Fifty naira) stamped and self-addressed envelope.
   
   
5. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
   
   1. Application Forms
      All application forms collected by hand or by post or downloaded are to be submitted with the following:
      1. Photocopies of ‘O’ Level Certificate(s)
      2. Bachelor’s Degree Certificate
      3. NYSC Discharge Certificate/Certificate of Exemption (where applicable)
      4. Masters Degree Certificate for Ph.D. applicants
      5. Marriage certificate or evidence of change of name (where applicable)
      6. Ten (10) Recent passport photographs
   2. For On-line Application
      In addition to the documents listed in E(a) above, all candidates who completed their applications online are to submit the following to the Secretary, Postgraduate School, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State.
      1. Photocopy of the “Bank Payment Slip”.
      2. Photocopy of the BranchCollect Pin Payment Receipt for Bowen University
      3. Photocopy of the Acknowledgement Card and Profile Entry printed on-line.
   3. Academic Transcript
      Candidates must ensure that their academic transcripts are sent directly to:
      The Dean,
      Postgraduate School,
      Bowen University, Iwo,
      Osun State.
      
      
6. REFEREE’S REPORTS
   
   1. Application Forms
      1. Download or Collect by hand/post the three Referees’ Confidential Reports Form for the Referees to complete. At least one of the Referees must be the Head or a Senior member of the Department where the candidate obtained his/her degree.
      2. Completed Referees report should be sent under confidential cover directly to: The Dean, Postgraduate School, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State
   2. On-line Application
      1. Candidates are to correctly fill details of their three Referees under the Referees Section in the online Application Form. At least one of them must be the Head or a Senior member of the Department where the candidate obtained his/her degree.
      2. Each Referee will be alerted via the e-mail address provided. Candidates should therefore inform their Referees ahead of this.
      
      
7. CLOSING DATE
   Completed applications forms whether on-line or otherwise, must be submitted not later Friday, 27th May, 2011.
